Michael has been involved in executive search since 1980 with the last 18 years building his own highly successful firm. During that time, he has handled more than 1,550 search assignments. According to Executive Recruiter News, Michael Shirley does more retainer-based executive search business as an individual producer "generalist" than any other firm between Chicago and Dallas. Michael began his professional career in management with R.H. Macy, Inc. as Personnel Manager for two suburban stores responsible for all aspects of the human resources function. He later joined Russell Stover Candies as Manager of Recruitment, Training and Development where he completed more than 250 management recruitment assignments across the U.S.

Community involvement has included membership in the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and CEO Roundtable, Advisory Board – School of Management and Board of Regents – Rockhurst University, and Board of Directors of the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra and Friends of Art. Michael holds an M.A. and B.A. in Speech Communication and Human Relations from the University of Missouri - Kansas City and Rockhurst University, respectively.
